Meet the Band
The Sunmills are an alt-rock trio from Highland, Utah, known for turning emotional chaos into guitar-driven anthems. Equal parts humor, heart, and distortion, we’re the kind of band that believes every problem sounds better with a riff.

Jim Brown – Vocals / Guitar / Riffmaster
Frontman and guitarist Jim Brown writes songs that turn emotional chaos into sing-along therapy. He’s the voice, spark, and occasional fire hazard behind The Sunmills’ brand of wild, funny alt-rock.
Jim’s love for rock music runs deep — he’s been chasing that dream since before he could play his first power chord. Now that he’s living it, he’s all in: no side projects, no distractions, just one band and more riffs than you can shake a stick at.
A lifelong recording-studio enthusiast, Jim’s addicted to the moment noise becomes music — operating the gear, dialing in tones, and chasing that perfect take where everything suddenly locks into place. He’s got a deep love for microphones, preamps, compressors, and all the little gadgets that turn noise into magic. With an audiophile’s ear and a heart that beats in 4/4, he brings the same devotion to the studio that he brings to the stage — loud, alive, and relentlessly rock and roll.
On stage, his guitar feels less like an instrument and more like a lifeline — the thing that makes him feel alive. Whether he’s belting out heartbreak, humor, or total madness, Jim brings the same conviction every time: make it loud, make it fun, and make it mean something.

Porter Chapman – Drums / Human Metronome
Porter doesn’t just play drums — he bends time. A prodigy since his teens, he’s been chasing the perfect groove like it owes him money. When he’s not laying down the beat for The Sunmills, he’s producing Lo-Fi tracks that prove rhythm and emotion can coexist in perfect sync.
He’s toured the world as drummer for eaJ (Jae Park) — a Korean-American singer-songwriter and former member of Day6 — including a U.S. run opening for Imagine Dragons. Between tours, he also plays with Mindy Gledhill and a handful of local bands, somehow managing to make even the simplest 4/4 beat feel like a spiritual event.
Most of his posts online are just him casually destroying the drum kit to songs by Passion Pit, LCD Soundsystem, and Fred again.., because apparently that’s his idea of “practice.” He calls himself a music producer and drummer, but we call him the heartbeat of The Sunmills — steady, wild, and impossible to ignore (and the only one who can actually count to four on stage).

Kyle McCann - Bass / Hot Sauce
If it’s got 4, 5, or 6 strings, Kyle can make it sing. Our resident low-end wizard doubles as a teacher, performer, and the only man alive who can troubleshoot a 1970s Ventura bridge while holding a taco in one hand.
Between his bass work with The Sunmills and a rotating cast of side projects ranging from Cody Robbins to The Real Doug Lane, Kyle’s become the go-to session player for a wide range of styles — from Country to Rock with a side of Flea-influenced funk.
When he’s not in the studio tweaking tone pots or adding capoed guitar layers to somebody’s heartbreak ballad, you’ll find him running Lisa’s Hot Sauce — his own small-batch brand dedicated to his late mother, a fiery tribute that balances great flavor with enough heat to keep things interesting.
He’s proudly sponsored by Klos Guitars, which means he can shred on his Klos Bass with confidence even when we forget to load half the gear into the van. And when he’s not teaching, gigging, or on stage with The Sunmills, he releases solo music as Sinslan Priori — a space where he gets to stretch out his jazz and other influences with the same smooth precision that defines everything he plays.
